A day-long festival of great intensity is marked by a massive procession of the Black Nazarene statue. The procession travels from Quiapo Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila, through the Quiapo district. Mostly male devotees participate in the procession, carrying the image on their shoulders while walking barefoot. The believers have faith, strong beliefs, and hope that their wishes will be granted and sins forgiven. On this occasion, they express their deepest gratitude to the Creator for the blessings they received throughout the year.
This event involves a grand procession called the Traslacion, where the life-sized wooden statue of Jesus Christ carrying the cross is carried on a carriage and devout followers walk barefoot for hours in an act of penance and devotion.
